The hills are alive with the sound of me singing!! Kitzbuhel, Austria August ’22

I’ve just had the most fab week in the Austrian mountains, have a read of my blog

Me and my friend stayed at the Edelweiss Hotel- a family run hotel with loads of repeat clients and I can see why! Their local knowledge was a godsend, helping us to plan our days out. The food was great- take a sandwich box as they encourage you to take a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet!!
The Location is fabulous- a short walk to the train station, town centre and lift.
We loved Kitzbuhel. Lots of lovely bars/restaurants/shops, with a casino and Rolex shop. It has a high end feel but everywhere is so friendly! There are lots of events- we enjoyed a French festival (celebrating the twinning with a town in France) and a food festival, we were gutted to miss the cow festival (when they bring the cows down from the mountains late Sept)
We bought a lift pass (which allows use of the buses too) and went up several mountains- some easier to walk than others. Hahnenkamm is world famous for the Streiff ski race, Gondolas take you to the top of the mountain and there are several walks- suitable for everyone, I saw a lady on a walking frame and there are kids trails with activities along the way. My tips for exploring the many mountain paths; get a decent map, propeWe swam in the lake at Schwarzsee – a great experience. Next to the Alpenhotel you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas, there’s a café serving drinks and food as well as showers/toilets and even hairdryers to use. Further round the lake by the road there’s a children’s splash park, you can hire boats, pedalos and paddle boards. We spent a whole day there relaxing
My tips for walking the mountains- decent walking shoes, a good map, plenty of water, waterproof jacket (weather changes quickly) let someone know where you’re going and an approx return time (our hotel asked us every day).
Some places only take cash so make sure you have Euros as well as your cards

Check out the cemetery at the church in town, so beautiful

For a real adrenaline rush try Paragliding appx 150Euro ( I didn’t but may do next time)

I have never done this sort of holiday but thoroughly enjoyed it- my friend said it was one of the best holidays she’s ever had. I was surprised to see such a variety of people enjoying themselves- families, young, old and anything in between. This was my first but wont be my last trip to this beautiful part of the world
