A variety of people enjoy being part of Wendy’s Wanderers, and that may include those considered to be a vulnerable adult. This safeguarding policy aims to protect those people from harm, abuse or neglect, ensuring their experience with Wendy’s Wanderers is safe, dignified and thoroughly enjoyable.
This policy should be read in conjunction with Wendy’s Wanderers Traveller Conduct Policy, both of which apply to travel trips and familiarisation events organised within the UK.
A vulnerable adult is generally defined as anyone over aged over 18 years, who due to their age, disability, illness or other circumstances, is unable to protect
themselves from abuse, neglect or exploitation. Their vulnerability may stem from various factors including physical, mental or learning disabilities, mental illness, age- related frailty or social isolation.
If you believe that anyone in the group is being abused, neglected or exploited, you should report this to the group leader, who will deal with the matter accordingly.
This may be to take action that:
challenges the behaviour where it has occurred within the group;
removes Wanderers from the group either temporarily whilst the matter is investigated, or permanently if it is found to be a safeguarding concern;
removes the vulnerable person from any external influence that has caused the harm, abuse or exploitation;
reports the matter the relevant authorities, including the police both in the UK and local to the trip.
If it is believed that it is the group leader who is the safeguarding concern, this should be reported to Wendy Haines, who will investigate and deal with the
complaint.
