There are some places that live up to the hype… and then there’s Santorini.
For my birthday this year, I escaped to this stunning Greek island for a few days of sunshine, luxury, incredible food and those famous caldera sunsets that honestly look too perfect to be real. We did a two centre – Oia and Kamari
From the moment we arrived, Santorini felt magical. Whitewashed buildings tumbling down the cliffs, blue domes glowing in the sunshine and the sparkling Aegean Sea stretching endlessly into the distance. Every corner looked like a postcard.
We spent time soaking up the iconic caldera views from an incredible 5* boutique hotel, enjoying lazy lunches, private pool, cocktails at sunset and plenty of wandering through the beautiful little streets that Santorini is famous for. Watching the sunset each evening became an event in itself — the whole island pauses while the sky turns gold, pink and fiery orange. Ask me about the restaurants we ate at with incredible views ![]()
Kamari has such a different feel from the caldera side of the island. Relaxed, friendly and effortlessly chilled, it’s the kind of place where you can spend hours strolling along the beachfront promenade stopping for cocktails, fresh seafood or “just one more” Greek dessert. The black volcanic beach gives it a completely unique look and the dramatic mountain backdrop makes it feel incredibly scenic. Swimshoes are a must- that black beach gets very hot underfoot
It had a lovely laid-back atmosphere that balanced perfectly with the luxury and busier sightseeing areas elsewhere on the island. By day it’s ideal for sunbeds and swimming, while evenings feel lively without being overwhelming. We loved sitting by the sea watching the world go by with a glass of something cold in hand — birthday bliss.
Of course, the food was another highlight. Fresh feta, seafood, gyros, local wine and enough tzatziki to probably qualify as a personality trait by the end of the trip![]()
Santorini really does offer something for everyone — stunning scenery, luxury hotels, beach life, beautiful villages, amazing sunsets and that wonderful Greek feeling of slowing down and enjoying life properly.
Would I go back? In a heartbeat.
And next time… I may need longer than a few days because Santorini has a habit of making you never want to leave.
